The verdict is out on whether Charles allows this or not.
Prince Andrew and his older brother King Charles have been at odds this past year due in part to the drama surrounding the Royal Lodge. Now, Charles is reportedly “finished” with Andrew after recent claims that the disgraced royal was in cahoots with a Chinese spy, according to the Daily Beast. Although Charles had initially extended an invite to Andrew to join the family at Sandringham, the Times notes that that gesture could now be rescinded. Andrew, however, won’t necessarily be deterred from joining in the celebrations.
According to the Express, Andrew reportedly wants to attend the king’s pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace. “Prince Andrew is hoping to attend” the lunch event, according to the outlet, though, Hello! magazine recently stated that Andrew, his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and their daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, will be opting out of the trip to Sandringham. The pre-holiday lunch is set to take place at the Palace on this Thursday and could be attended by up to 70 guests.
Prior to Andrew’s most recent scandal, Charles had allegedly extended an “olive branch,” earlier this month, which would explain the invite to Sandringham in the first place. After Andrew’s involvement with businessman Yang Tengbo, however, it’s possible that Charles “could now ban his brother from joining the rest of his family walking to church at Sandringham on Christmas Day,” per theTimes,
While Andrew and Ferguson plan to stay home for the holidays—they both live in the Royal Lodge—their daughters Eugenie and Beatrice will observe Christmas with their respective in-laws.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Ferguson opened up about her and Andrew’s relationship, saying that she will always have her ex’s back because “he supports me as much as I support him.” The two wed in 1986 and later separated in 1992 before divorcing in 1996.
“I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew. I would do it all over again, 100 percent,” said Ferguson. “He’s the best, a great man with a great heart, and kind.”
