Anthony Hopkins Shares Emotional Message After L.A. Home Was Left a Shell in Wake of Palisades Fire: PHOTO

Anthony Hopkins is among the many Los Angeles area residents who lost their homes to the fires raging across the city on Wednesday.

The Pacific Palisades home of the Welsh actor, who turned 87 on Dec. 31, has burned to the ground, as seen in photos obtained by PEOPLE. The scene shows just a few concrete pillars, scorched wood and a stone pathway at the property, where smoke still rose from the rubble.

A representative for Hopkins did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

On Friday, Jan. 10, the actor posted a message to instagram about the tragedy, writing “As we struggle to heal from the devastation of these fires, it’s important we remember that the only thing we take with us is the love we give.” He included a heart, broken heart and praying emoji to the text post.

More than 130,000 people have fled their homes as a series of wildfires rapidly continues to engulf large parts of the Los Angeles area. In just a handful of days, the blazes rapidly grew to some 29,000 acres or 45 square miles, roughly twice the size of Manhattan.

As of Thursday, Jan. 9, there had been at least 10 fire-related deaths, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

The first fire, which impacted Hopkins, began in the Pacific Palisades on Tuesday and had burned over 11,800 acres of land and was 0% contained as of Wednesday evening, per the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The agency is investigating the cause of the fire. Residents in the foothills of that neighborhood were given evacuation orders on Tuesday morning.

The Eaton Fire (also called the Close Fire) and Hurst Fire followed that evening, while the Woodley Fire began early Wednesday. A fifth blaze, the Tyler Fire, sparked west of L.A. near Coachella, and a sixth erupted in the Hollywood Hills Wednesday night.

Among the celebrities who’ve shared how they’ve been affected by the fires are Mandy Moore, Mark Hamill, Kate Beckinsale, Diane Warren, Cary Elwes and Maria Shriver.

Hopkins splits his time between the U.S. and his native U.K. In an Instagram post on Dec. 8, the two-time Oscar winner spent the holidays in “jolly old England.” He captioned the video, “Home sweet home for the holidays.”

“I come from a country where everything is gray,” the Silence of the Lambs star said at the time. “I came out here in 1973 and loved the color. I thought I was in paradise. Still do.”
